Privacy Policy

Effective date: 11 August 2026 · Last updated: 11 August 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Paperly PDF ("Paperly", "we", "us") handles information when you use the Paperly PDF Android application and this website. Paperly is built to be privacy-first: your PDFs are edited on your device, not on our servers.

1. Overview

Paperly PDF is an offline-first PDF editor for Android. Opening, editing, annotating, signing, merging, reordering and exporting PDFs all happen locally on your device. We do not upload, read, store or analyse the contents of your documents.

This policy applies to the Paperly PDF app distributed through Google Play (and any direct APK we publish) and to the Paperly website.

2. Who we are

Paperly PDF is the data controller for the limited personal data described in this policy. You can reach us at any time at pdf-support@kl-imagine.com.

3. Your documents and files

  • Documents you open remain in the storage location you chose on your device. Paperly does not copy them to a cloud service.
  • Edits, annotations, signatures and page changes are written locally when you save or export.
  • Signature images you create are stored only on your device and can be deleted from within the app.
  • If you use the Android share sheet to send an exported file, the receiving app or service handles that file under its own privacy policy.

4. Data we collect

We keep collection to the minimum needed to run and improve the app.

  • Account data (optional). Paperly can be used entirely in guest mode. If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your email address, name and account identifier so we can keep your preferences associated with your account.
  • Diagnostics and crash data. If enabled, we collect anonymous crash reports and basic performance data (device model, Android version, app version, error stack traces). This never includes file names or document contents.
  • Anonymous usage analytics. Aggregated counts of feature usage (for example, "export tapped") to understand which tools matter. No document content and no precise location are collected.
  • Support correspondence. If you email us, we keep your message and email address to answer you.

We do not collect contacts, SMS, call logs, precise location, health data, or the content of your files. We do not sell personal data.

5. How we use data

  • To provide and maintain the app's features.
  • To diagnose crashes, fix bugs and improve stability and performance.
  • To respond to support requests.
  • To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.

Where the GDPR applies, our legal bases are performance of a contract (providing the app), legitimate interests (security, bug fixing, product improvement) and consent (optional analytics and optional sign-in), which you may withdraw at any time.

6. Android permissions

  • Storage / file access (photo and media, or the Storage Access Framework). Used only to open the PDFs you select and to save the files you export. Paperly does not scan your storage in the background.
  • Camera (optional). Only if you choose to scan a document or capture an image to insert into a PDF.
  • Internet / network state. Used for optional sign-in, crash reporting and update checks. Core editing works offline.
  • Notifications (optional). Used to report export or long-running task completion.

You can revoke any permission at any time in Android Settings.

7. Sharing and third parties

We share data only with service providers that help us operate the app, and only for the purposes above:

  • Google Play services (app distribution, in-app updates, optional sign-in).
  • A crash reporting and analytics provider, processing anonymous diagnostics.

We may also disclose information where required by law, or to protect the rights, safety and security of our users and our service. We never sell or rent your personal data, and we do not share it for advertising or profiling.

8. Data retention

  • Documents: kept on your device only, for as long as you keep them.
  • Crash and analytics data: retained in aggregated or anonymised form up to 24 months.
  • Account data: retained until you delete your account, then removed within 30 days.
  • Support emails: retained up to 24 months.

9. Your rights and data deletion

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.

To delete your data: uninstalling the app removes locally stored app data. If you signed in, you can request account and associated data deletion in the app under Settings → Account → Delete account, or by emailing pdf-support@kl-imagine.com with the subject "Delete my account". We verify the request and complete deletion within 30 days.

10. Security

Because editing happens on-device, your document contents are never exposed to our infrastructure. Data that is transmitted (such as sign-in and crash reports) is encrypted in transit with TLS. No method of transmission or storage is fully secure, but we apply reasonable technical and organisational safeguards.

11. Children's privacy

Paperly PDF is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact pdf-support@kl-imagine.com and we will delete it.

12. International transfers

Our service providers may process limited diagnostic or account data in countries other than yours. Where required, such transfers rely on appropriate safeguards, including the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be announced in the app or on this page, and the "Last updated" date above will change. Continued use of Paperly after an update means you accept the revised policy.
